COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is designed to help MCI trainees develop the judgement, movement, and technical systems required to manage two people (clients) on Grade II and III scrambling terrain. Working on realistic mountaineering ground - and using ground covered on previous MCI assessments - we’ll focus on both ascent and descent to refine your decision-making and technical skills.
This is a high-value day aimed at building confidence, clarity, and readiness for your MCI assessment scrambling day.
COURSE OUTLINE:
-
Client management:
Operating in grade 2/3 terrain, looking at movement with two clients on technical ground, using systems for both ascent and descent
-
Fundamental scrambling systems:
Rope work and systems for tying in two people and moving as a team of three and looking at short roping, short pitching and effective transitions between movement modes, and when and how each technique is appropriate
-
Terrain-based decision making:
Route choice and terrain reading and selecting safe and efficient lines for your clients ability and ambitions for the day
-
Belay positioning and setup:
Managing client security, belays, stances and using working space when dealing with two people
-
Judgement and decision making:
Clearly and confidently explaining your decisions is crucial. This is often the area where candidates defer the most, with mountain judgment being a key focus. Use this day to gain clarity and confidence in articulating your choices.
