This service is ideal for anyone interested in hill walking and seeking guidance, confidence, and local insight. We’ll handle the planning, navigation, and provide stories and knowledge about the landscape - so you can focus on enjoying the journey.

Introductory Walks:

Perfect for beginners or those looking for a gentle day in the fells.

  • Catbells:

A scenic mountain with panoramic views over the Derwent Water, ideal for a half-day or relaxed full day.

  • Loughrigg Fell & Rydal Caves:

Gentle ascent with stunning views and a mix of woodland, tarns, and classic Lakeland scenery.

  • Tarn Hows Circular:

Low-level walk with great views, ideal for families or first-time walkers.

Intermediate:

For regular walkers wanting a classic Wainwright summit experience.

  • Fairfield Horseshoe:

A classic circular ridge walk starting and ending in Ambleside—great for fit hillwalkers.

  • High Street & The Eastern Fells:

Explore Roman roads and sweeping ridge lines in a quieter corner of the Lakes.

  • Haystacks from Gatesgarth:

Wainwright’s favourite—varied terrain, peaceful tarns, and rich history.

Challenging Mountain Walks:

Ideal for those looking for a big mountain day.

  • Helvellyn & The Edges 

Helvellyn’s famous Striding and Swirral Edges offer thrilling ridgeline scrambles with stunning views.

1:4 max ratio for Striding Edge. 

  • The Coledale Horseshoe:

A full day taking in several summits, with rewarding views across the northwestern Lakes.

  • Crinkle Crags & Bowfell:

A classic high-level ridge walk through rocky, undulating terrain with stunning panoramas and a real sense of mountain adventure.

  • Green Gable and Great Gable:

​A rugged and rewarding mountain day linking two iconic Lakeland peaks, offering dramatic views over Wasdale and the central fells.

Anyone aged 12+ (under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).

Guided walking days suit most experience levels, requiring a reasonable fitness level and comfort on uneven terrain. While prior hillwalking experience helps, it’s not essential. Our guides provide navigation and safety support, making it a great learning opportunity.

RATIOS

1:8 Ratio

Our instructors can lead up to 8 people in the mountains.

 

A party larger than 8 will require multiple guides - we can accommodate for this on enquiry.

Helvellyn & Striding Edge has a 1:4 ratio - additional guides can be supplied. 

PRE-REQUISITES

No experience necessary 

We can accommodate any experience level - route choices will be discussed during the booking stage 

We can run the day in line with your experiences and skillset and tailor the day just for you.

EQUIPMENT

We will share kit lists with you during the booking stage

You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing (warm and waterproof where possible) and suitable mountain footwear for the conditions (boots)

A sturdy rucksack to carry everything you need for the day is advisable (30-40L)

VENUE

Our venues are carefully selected and tailored to get the most out of the programme. 

We will select appropriate routes and hikes dependant on your experience and fitness. 

The meeting location will be shared during the booking stage and this will differ depending on the walk and area chosen - the guide will meet you onsite for your day.
