WHAT IS MOUNTAINEERING?

Guided scrambling & mountaineering combines elements of hiking and climbing. It involves ascending rocky terrain, where hands and feet are used for balance and support.  This may involve walking over ridges, moving through exposed terrain or ascending easy rock climbing sections to make progress.

Our guides are qualified rock climbers with extensive knowledge of the local climbing areas. They are certified and trained to a high standard.  This standard is upheld through Mountain Training and our instructors hold the MCI award and are professional members of AMI.

  • Coniston Old Man: Brim Fell Slabs

  • The Napes: Thread the Needle and Sphinx Ridge

Grade III

  • Middlefell Buttress & Continuation

  • Pillar: Slab & Notch climb

  • Harrow Buttress and Chockstone Ridge

  • Pinnacle Ridge

  • Dove Nest Crag & Cam Crag Ridge

  • Scafell, West Wall Traverse & Broad Stand

COURSE RATIOS

1:4 ratio for Grade I terrain

1:2 ratio for Grade II & III routes

For safety, technical terrain is limited to 2 clients per instructor

Larger groups on Grade III require multiple instructors – please enquire

PRE-REQUISITES

No experience needed, but a head for heights helps

For Grade III, it's useful if you're familiar with wearing a harness — we'll teach you if not

Each day is tailored to your experience and comfort level

EQUIPMENT

All technical gear provided (harness, helmet, ropes, etc.)

Bring your own harness/helmet if preferred

Kit list shared at booking

Wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy mountain boots

VENUE

Our venues are carefully selected and tailored to get the most out of the programme. 

We can select venues close to your accommodation where possible.

We can supply additional instructors for larger groups - 1:2 ratio for safety in this terrain. For every 2 people we can supply an additional guide.
