Winter mountaineering & climbing courses

Between January and March our team are based in the Scottish Highlands, where we deliver winter climbing & mountaineering courses.  The highlands offer more reliable conditions than the Lake District, and here we have the perfect winter training ground.

Learn and progress in winter mountains with our WMCI/WML-qualified guides who know the terrain inside out. Our courses are designed to build skills safely and progressively, helping you gain confidence in snow, ice, and mixed conditions.

Courses Offered:

  • Winter Mountaineering: Intro - (2 Days in The Cairngorms) – foundation skills for safe winter travel on graded ground - using ropes and harnesses for safeguarding yourself on steep ground.

  • Winter Mountaineering: Advanced - (3 days around Lochaber & Glen Coe) – advance your winter mountaineering techniques on ridges, gullies and graded winter scrambling terrain.

  • Winter Climbing: Intro (2 Days) – first steps onto winter climbs with essential skills and winterising your climbing knowledge

  • Winter Climbing: Progression (4 Days) – develop technical climbing, protection, and multi-pitch abilities with two axes and advanced climbing techniques

  • Winter Climbing: Ben Nevis & CIC Hut (3 days, 2 nights) - making the most of all that the Ben Nevis North Face has to offer.

  • Classic Winter Climbing - hire a guide and maximise your time in the winter mountains, climbing routes and building skills.

All courses are tailored to give you practical experience, confidence, and the knowledge to enjoy the mountains safely in winter conditions.

I couldn't recommend this course more. As someone who wants to make the step from summer hill walking to winter this was the perfect opportunity. Sam was professional throughout and guided us through the correct safety procedures so that we could be out in the fells. It was a positive environment throughout.

Thoroughly enjoyed each day and that's because of Sam's expertise and the great way he instructed the course.
Sam's structure of teaching made it really easy to learn and put into practice everything being taught.
Sam is very patient, friendly, knowledgeable and highly professional and I would highly recommend him.
