OVERVIEW

This course is designed to introduce you to the world of traditional climbing in the UK - we will use the crags on the Lake District and climb some classic routes in order to show how rock climbing works. 

We will complete an easy multi pitch climb and learn in context as we climb showing you the equipment involved in traditional climbing -we will look at the complexities of the nuts, cams and hexes - how to place them in the rock, how to remove them and how to use them in a climbing context, from placing runners to building belays.

 

Technical skills covered on this course include:

  • Tying in and refinement of this skill

  • Belaying & how to belay a lead climber

  • Climbing equipment - nuts, cams and hexes

  • Gear placement and its removal from the rock

  • Seconding climbs and learning the systems

  • Tying clove hitches

  • Stance organisation and managing transitions 

  • Abseiling and descent

  • Movement and climbing styles and further coaching

Course Ratios

1:2 Ratio - 2 people per 1 instructor

Safety is paramount so no more than 2 people per 1 instructor in technical terrain.

 

A party larger than 2 will require multiple instructors - we can supply instructors adhering to our ratios - please enquire.  

Pre-Requisites 

A desire to learn about climbing

 

Good for climbers transitioning from indoor to outdoor, or for those that have completed a taster session.

 

If you have never climbed before we would recommend either booking a 'Discover Climbing' or a 'Guided Climbing Day' so we can tailor a day for you.

Equipment

All technical equipment is provided. 

We will share kit lists with you during the booking stage

Harness & Helmet provided

You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and have your own rock shoes. 

Venue

Our venues are carefully selected and tailored to get the most out of the programme. 

We can select venues close to your accommodation where possible.

We regularly use the Langdale & Borrowdale valleys.

If cancellation occurs within 30 days of the course or activity, we will retain 50% of the full price (your deposit).

If cancellation is within 14 days of the activity we will retain the full amount.
