OVERVIEW
This course would suit novice climbers looking to progress, improver climbers, those looking to build safe practice or those looking at progressing from indoor to outdoor rock climbing and trad climbing. We will use a mixture of venues and trad climbing areas to develop your knowledge and understanding of outdoor climbing.
This is a 3 day course.
A general itinerary and course outline:
Day 1:
The aim on this day will be to get you moving on the rock outdoors
On the day we will:

Tying in and refinement of this skill

Belaying & how to belay a lead climber

Climbing equipment - nuts, cams and hexes

Removing climbing gear whilst climbing

Seconding climbs and learning the systems

Learning climbing calls
Day 2:

Movement skills/coaching

Different belay devices and their uses

Looking at placing climbing gear

Tying clove hitches
-
Building belays (ABC, IDEAS principles)

Learn to belay a second
Day 3:

'In series' climbing to practice gear placement and runner management

Tying into the belay safely

Stance organisation and belay changeovers
-
Belay a second on routes
-
Ghost roping (placing gear on lead, with a top rope)

Safe descent, abseiling and rope retrieval

Course Ratios
1:2 ratio for focussed instruction in technical terrain
We will bring in an additional instructor (MCI) for day 2 in order to adhere to our ratios and keep the climbing safe.
Feel free to book as an individual, and we will try to find another climber to run at 1:2 and maximise learning opportunities. If you want an exclusive booking, then please let us know and will run at 1:1.
Pre-Requisites
Some prior knowledge of climbing is beneficial - whether you're a regular indoor leader, top rope beginner or boulderer we can tailor the programme towards your skillset.
Ideal for those moving off the wall and looking for outdoor climbing experience.
Ideally you can fit a harness correctly, tie a rethreaded figure of eight knot and belay a top roped climber - but we can always show you how!
Equipment
All technical equipment is provided.
We will share kit lists with you during the booking stage
Ropes and climbing hardware all provided and inclusive of the price
Harness & Helmet can be provided
You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and have your own rock shoes.

Venue
Our venues are carefully selected and tailored to get the most out of the programme.
We regularly use the Langdale & Borrowdale valleys but there are many good areas to choose from - let us know where you're saying and we can tailor the programme
We will use well known climbs, allowing us to teach in contact on real world terrain.
