Your booking
- A booking is confirmed once we have received your payment, or your deposit, and sent you a confirmation email.
- The person who makes a booking is responsible for making sure that everyone they book for has read and accepts these terms, and that the details given for each participant are accurate.
- Prices, deposits, balance payments, changes and cancellations are set out in our Booking & Cancellation Policy.
Taking part
Each participant agrees to the following:
- You agree to be bound by and obey these terms and conditions and all other rules, regulations and conditions of Lake District Mountaineering and its associates, including any applicable safety rules.
- You acknowledge that you owe a duty to yourself and others whilst engaging in any activity provided by Lake District Mountaineering to ensure that you do not take any action or step, or fail to do anything, so as to endanger your safety and/or the safety of others.
- You will not attempt to repair, modify or tamper with any equipment provided to you for any purpose whilst engaging in any activity, and will comply with all instructions in relation to the safe and proper use of such equipment.
- You will only use your own technical equipment (such as a harness, helmet, axe or crampons) if your instructor has checked it and agreed to its use.
- You acknowledge that engaging in an activity provided by Lake District Mountaineering can be physically and mentally demanding, and you will tell us about any medical condition, injury or other matter that may affect your participation, through the Medical, Emergency & Consent Form and again before the course if anything changes.
- You agree to pay to Lake District Mountaineering a sum equivalent to the new value of the item plus an administration charge of £50 if you fail to return any equipment provided to you for the purpose of engaging in any activity.
- You understand that winter conditions are not guaranteed, and that an alternative course syllabus, such as a revised mountain skills course, will be offered by Lake District Mountaineering. A lack of winter conditions does not entitle a refund.
- You acknowledge that engaging in the activity provided by Lake District Mountaineering may be dangerous, and that engaging in any activity is at your own risk.
- You confirm that Lake District Mountaineering is entitled at any time to refuse or end a participant's involvement in an activity for safety reasons, including where their behaviour puts themselves or others at risk. No refund is given in that case.
Age requirements
Our courses and workshops are open to participants aged 16 and over. Anyone aged 16 or 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the course. Our leadership courses and workshops are for participants aged 18 and over.
Medical, Emergency & Consent Form
Every participant must complete a Medical, Emergency & Consent Form before their course, and tell us before the course if anything in it changes. The information is used to run the activity safely, as set out in our Privacy Policy.
Participation statement
We follow the British Mountaineering Council's participation statement: climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
Safety and changes on the day
Your instructor may change the venue, route or plan, or shorten an activity, because of the weather, the conditions or the group's progress. These decisions are made for everyone's safety, and the instructor's decision is final.
Mountain Training courses
Mountain Training sets the requirements for its qualifications. Candidates register with Mountain Training themselves, and it is their responsibility to meet the prerequisites for their course or assessment. An assessment result depends on the candidate's performance and is not guaranteed. We share attendance and results with Mountain Training, as its schemes require.
Photographs
We may take photographs and video during our activities. The Medical, Emergency & Consent Form asks each participant whether we may use their images; you can change your choice at any time by contacting us.
Our liability
- Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
- Lake District Mountaineering takes no responsibility for any other financial losses incurred, for example travel and accommodation costs, if an activity is changed or cancelled.
- We hold public liability insurance for our activities. We recommend that you take out your own insurance, including cancellation cover.
Complaints
If anything about your booking or your course falls short, please tell us at info@lakedistrictmountaineering.co.uk so that we can put it right.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your booking are those shown on this page when you booked. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
