ML Expedition Skills, Leadership & Wild Camp
Pathway: Leadership
A two-day Mountain Leader development workshop combining expedition skills, leadership, navigation and campcraft through a practical overnight mountain journey.
Between Training & Assessment
Training and Assessment are the two formal stages of the Mountain Leader award. The time between them is where your competence is built.
Our ML Development workshops provide focused development in navigation, leadership, steep ground, emergency ropework, expedition skills and assessment readiness. Use them to work on priorities identified during training, strengthen specific areas during consolidation or maintain and develop your practice as a qualified leader. Book a single day to strengthen one area, or the full Spring or Autumn block for a joined-up run towards assessment.

Mountain Training Association
These ML Development workshops are designed to support continuing professional development for Mountain Training Association members, as well as candidates progressing towards Mountain Leader assessment.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the process of maintaining, developing and enhancing the skills, knowledge and professional judgement used when leading, coaching and working with people in the mountains.
Eligible workshops will record official CPD points on a member's profile through the Mountain Training Candidate Management System (Tahdah), giving MTA members a structured way to evidence ongoing professional development alongside their qualifications and experience.
The workshops are particularly relevant for members wanting to refresh technical skills, develop their leadership and coaching practice, maintain currency, or explore specific areas of the Mountain Leader syllabus in greater depth.
No. Every ML Development workshop is open to anyone with the experience listed on its page. Mentoring clients use the same workshops as part of their plan, but you don't need mentoring to book them.
No. Every date stands alone as a refresher or development day, so you can book just the areas you need. If you'd like a joined-up sequence, book the full Spring or Autumn block.
Each workshop page lists the experience it assumes. The workshops are designed for candidates who have completed Mountain Leader Training and are consolidating before assessment, and several also suit qualified Mountain Leaders who want a structured refresher. If you're not sure, tell us where you are and we'll check the right fit.
No. We give direct feedback on what we observe and the gaps to address, but a single day cannot predict your performance across the full assessment or guarantee a result. The ML Mock Assessment Day gives the broadest check of your readiness.
Mountain Training sets the requirements for registration, training and assessment. Read the current Mountain Leader candidate handbook and the Mountain Leader qualification page before booking.
