Lake District Mountaineering is an approved provider of Mountain Leader Training and Assessment through Mountain Training England.
Mountain Training oversees nationally recognised leadership and skills schemes across walking, climbing and mountaineering.
Approved providers deliver courses within Mountain Training's syllabus, course structure and quality-assurance framework.
Mountain Leader Training and Assessment
Lake District Mountaineering delivers both Mountain Leader Training and Mountain Leader Assessment in the Lake District.
Our courses make use of mountain terrain around Borrowdale, Buttermere, Ennerdale and the Central and Western Fells, giving candidates access to the varied terrain required for leadership, navigation, steep-ground work and expedition journeys.
Sam Marsland is an approved Mountain Leader Course Director and holds the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor qualifications.
Mountain Training and the Mountain Training Association
These are two different organisations within the wider mountain-training community.
Mountain Training manages the qualification and skills schemes, including Mountain Leader.
The Mountain Training Association (MTA) is a membership organisation supporting candidates and qualification holders through networking, resources and continuing professional development.
Mountain Leader Development
Alongside formal Mountain Leader Training and Assessment, we run a programme of development workshops for candidates and qualified leaders.
These workshops allow people to focus on particular parts of their development, including navigation, night navigation, expedition skills, leadership, steep ground and emergency ropework.
Some approved workshops may also carry Mountain Training Association CPD points for MTA members.
Formal qualification requirements, registration information and current scheme guidance should always be checked directly with Mountain Training.
Our affiliation means you can expect quality and approved instruction from mountain professionals - we have dedicated a lifetime to gaining the necessary experience and qualifications to deliver the highest standard of instruction across the many disciplines of mountaineering.
Accreditation
Lake District Mountaineering work alongside Mountain Training to help deliver their vision, mission and ethos in all we do across our courses. This includes delivering structured itineraries to educate, train and inspire people to safely enjoy the hills, mountains, cliffs and crags we have in the UK.
We like to create an inclusive and motivating atmosphere, where it is okay to learn from your mistakes and gain the confidence to be practical and hands on with the tasks at hand. We are here to offer the necessary challenge and support to achieve your goals.
We are happy to discuss any course and itinerary for you and welcome all questions and emails to info@lakedistrictmountaineering.co.uk
