OVERVIEW

Scrambling is the grey area of uncertainty between walking and climbing.  Often this is the most dangerous ground to cover - it may be easy sometimes but a fall or slip could have high consequences.

It is important to be able to judge the terrain and know how to protect it, and safeguard yourself and other members of your party - especially if you have to climb a steeper section of the route.

On this course we will show you to use the rope, looking at when it should be used and what methods may be appropriate in different scenarios.

This course is for people comfortable at grade 1 and 2 but looking to develop technical skills to safeguard themselves on grade 3.

Day 1:

  • Planning and preparation

  • Clothing, gloves and gear

We will guide you on a grade 3 scramble looking at:

  • Fundamental climbing skills
