OVERVIEW

This course is aimed at those who have completed an 'Introduction to Trad Climbing Course' or climbers looking to transition from indoor to outdoor climbing.  

This course is an expansion from the 'Introduction to Trad Climbing' course and will expand on knowledge and skills shown during that day.  

This is an opportunity to refine those skills over a longer period. 

 

This is a 2 day course.

 

Course Outline:

Day 1:

  • Recap tying in and belaying

  • Discuss modern gear such as nuts, cams and hexes

  • Be guided on a rock climb and familiarisation with the systems

  • Demonstrate and practice gear placement in the rock

  • Build belays

  • Set a framework for safe and solid belays (ABC and IDEAS acronyms) ​

 

Day 2:

  • 'In series' climbing to practice gear placement and runner management

  • Learn to belay a second

  • Stance organisation and belay changeovers

  • Safe abseiling and descent from the crag

Course Ratios

1:2 Ratio - 2 people per 1 instructor

Safety is paramount so no more than 2 people per 1 instructor in technical terrain.

 

A party larger than 2 will require multiple instructors - we can supply instructors adhering to our ratios - please enquire.  

Pre-Requisites 

Some prior knowledge will be beneficial

Wear and fit a harness correctly

Tie a rethreaded figure of eight knot

Belay a top roped climber

(This can be refreshed on the day)

Good for climbers looking to build competence. 

Equipment

All technical equipment is provided. 

We will share kit lists with you during the booking stage

Harness & Helmet provided

You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and have your own rock shoes. 

Venue

Our venues are carefully selected and tailored to get the most out of the programme. 

We can select venues close to your accommodation where possible.

We regularly use the Langdale & Borrowdale valleys.
