This is an introduction to mountaineering and covers the expectations for moving in big boots on easy rock climbs and alpine style terrain.
Gain exposure, learn to move on a rope and tackle scrambles up to Grade III and easy climbs up to the grade of DIff.
Two days, being guided in the mountains, accessing some of the best scrambles in the Lake District.
This course would be great for those preparing for an alps trip and looking to get some roped mileage on rock.

OVERVIEW
This course is for people looking to develop their knowledge to progress into grade III scrambling ground and easy climbs, to progress their mountaineering skills and efficiency to head to the Alps or tackle the Cuillin Ridge.
We are hoping to equip you for all scrambling and mountaineering terrain that can be found in the UK. LDM will literally show you the ropes and help you to access terrain on higher end scrambles. We are looking to develop your overall understanding of mountain scrambling and allow you to broaden your experience levels on some classic Lakeland scrambles with a qualified expert.
COURSE OUTLINE
Guided Technical Scramble
Two days of guided scrambling on a challenging routes to teach and demonstrate relevant skills.
Emphasis on route-finding, protection placement, and efficient movement.
Gear and Equipment
Gear selection for technical scrambling.
Proper fitting of helmets, harnesses, and specialised equipment.
Advanced Scrambling Techniques
Focus on precise footwork, handholds, and body positioning on technical terrain.
Introduction to down climbing techniques.
Rope Work for Scramblers
Introduction to basic knots and hitches.
Roped movement as a team on exposed terrain, with the guide leading the scrambles.
Use of Protection
Proper placement and assessment of natural and artificial protection.
Abseiling techniques for steep descents.

Technical gear and its application
Fundamental climbing skills
Tying in, belaying
Placing and removing gear
Movement coaching and climbing styles

This is an open course designed for you to meet like minded individuals and learn to climb together
We can provide additional instructors adhering to a 1:2 ratio. Please still enquire if you are group larger than 2.
Minimum of 2 for courses to run
Pre-Requisites
16+ yrs to attend this course
Under 18's must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian
Preferably, you are a competent mountain walker and have completed at least three grade I scrambles, have enjoyed the srambling and want to learn more technical skills.
This course goes into grade III mountaineering ground
Equipment
Helmets can be provided and will be necessary on the scramble
Harnesses and technical equipment can also be provided
We will share kit lists with you during the booking stage
You will need to wear suitable outdoor clothing and have good walking boots or approach shoes that are sticky on rock.
La Sportiva TX4 and Scarpa Mescalito are good examples of this.
Venue
The course is based In Langdale.
We will meet for 9:00am on the day at the Stickle Ghyll, National Trust car park.
The terrain in this valley is amazing for scrambling and we have lots of options here for quick and easy access to good scrambles, and there are some classics in the valley too.
Day 2 will make use of classic scramble somewhere in the district.
